Beautiful movie moment in “The Decoy Bride”

The other night, I was doing a search for movies to watch. Lately I’ve been on a Regency kick. Seriously what girl after seeing Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version of course) didn’t want to have a Mr. Darcy of her own? Would I want to live during that time period? Heavens no. Maybe it’s the civility, the etiquette, or it could be the gorgeous gowns that draw me to… anyways… that wasn’t what I was going to write about.

There was a bit of time before bed and the rest of the house was asleep, I searched on ‘movies like Austenland’ and came across “The Decoy Bride”, a 2011 romantic drama/comedy. Lara Tyler, a famous actress wants to marry her writer fiance, writer James Arber. Unable to shake the media, they escape to the tiny Scottish island of Hegg. The most dedicated of her paparazzi finds them, so Lara makes a run for it. Her management team decide to stage a fake wedding to appease the media. Katie is recruited, dressed and overly veiled to complete the deception. Through a series of mishaps and walks around the beautiful Scottish countryside, Katie and James fall in love.

Such a beautiful movie with so many sweet and touching moments. One of them was the following clip. James storms out the B&B where Katie and her Mom live after having a fight. He gets lost and goes to the nearest house where he is mistaken for being a famous bagpipe player.

The Decoy Bride – The Old Couple

After watching this scene, I just wanted to cry. What a beautiful representation of what love is. Able to dance to your own music even when you can’t hear the notes. The look of love on the old couple’s face is just sheer perfection.

My husband and I met in high-school, same group of friends, but no dating or sparks. We met again over twenty years later after I’d been at a bachelorette party and he’d been hiking all day. After that night, I knew, I just knew he was going to be my forever. Six years, one beautiful son and all the ups and downs in life and we are still dancing to our own music. The melody becomes louder and everyone else fades away and until it’s the two of you holding tight to each other dancing through life.
